The Harmony of a Wind Mobile
Whether in the Far East, in Switzerland, or any other place on earth, my wind mobiles with
their cheery play of forms and colours are bound to give a lift to young and old. These
amusing sculptures, kept in motion by natural energy, are not only intended to bring a
splash of colour into the sometimes dreary days; they should also be capable of giving
people's psyches a boost. According to the millenia-old Chinese doctrine of Feng Shui, a
wind mobile has a harmonising influence on the flow of energy.Stagnating energies are
activated, deleterious effects averted. Experimenting with this element is extraordinarily
exciting and entertaining. Every wind mobile harbours a new challenge. Although my
wind-driven creations are designed so that the slightest breath of air will set the
individual components in motion, the entire sculpture will withstand the onslaught of a
squall. Depending on the speed of the wind and the size of the colourful, variously
configured vanes, the sculpture creates a new visual experience through the constantly
changing abstract composition. When the vanes move slowly and deliberately the effect is
soothing; if they are more active, move faster, then they stimulate. But whatever the
movement, they always propagate a message of good cheer.
The wind has become my partner: from the softest caress of a barely perceptible
zephyr to the blustery battering of a storm, it is remarkably similar to the moods of
mankind. Perhaps this is the reason why, in the world of myth and legend, the wind seems
to exert a mystical force that irresistibly attracts the earthling.
My wind mobiles are silent in operation and have a near-zero maintenance
requirement. Their moving elements rotate on heavy-duty ball bearings that are lubricated
for life and protected against meteorological inclemency by sealing rings. All ferrous
items are hot-dip galvanised and, in the same manner as the light-alloy vanes, are primed
prior to being coated with a field-proven two-compontent paint.
