Iron mobile, 12m high, weight 9 tonnes
This iron mobile stands 12 metres high between two water basins each measuring 25 square
metres. Twenty-four coloured balls, each with a diameter of 60 cm, float in the upper
basin. They symbolise the hours of the day.
Every hour, on the hour, one of the balls is transported by a train of wheels to
the highest point of the three-storey-tall sculpture and then plunges into the second
basin.
There the time can be told to the exact hour by counting the number of floating
balls. At noon and midnight, the twelve hour-balls are carried back via a connecting
channel to the upper basin by an ingenious circulatory flow system. |

WMH Mobile, 1991
Hydromobile located in the entrance hall of Walter Meier Holding AG in Stäfa,
Switzerland
From the extensive range of the products and services of WMH, I chose a selection of
operations that would be as typical as possible of each sphere of activity within the
group. These operations are depicted symbolically, usually as individual mobiles, which
are combined to form a multifaceted hydromobile. In keeping with WMH's colourful palette
of products, this lighthearted creation is a multihued dynamic sculpture. |
